Peak Martech? 2026 Landscape Adds Just 121 Products to Reach 15,505

The 2026 marketing technology landscape grew 0.79% to 15,505 products — a net addition of 121 tools and the smallest year-over-year expansion since the supergraphic began tracking in 2011.
Vendors added 1,488 products this year, down 40% from 2,489 in 2025. At the same time, 1,367 products dropped off the list, up 13% from 1,211 last year.
The State of Martech 2026 report, sponsored by GrowthLoop, Hightouch, Knak, MoEngage, Pega, Progress, and SAS, documents the shift.
Have we hit peak martech?
The report concludes: "We may have finally hit peak martech." The headline growth stalled, but the underlying flow intensified. New entrants no longer outpace removals by enough to move the needle.
Over 15 years, the martech market expanded from 150 products in 2011 to more than 15,000 today — a 10,236.7% increase. Now that expansion has stopped, at least temporarily.
Which products are exiting?
The 2010–2019 SaaS wave supplied 51.7% of products removed this year. This is not just AI wrappers from the first ChatGPT gold rush. A meaningful portion of the first great SaaS martech generation is now cycling out.
The exits cluster among smaller vendors:
- 45.5% had $1M–$10M in revenue
- 41.2% had 1–10 employees
- 38.7% had 11–50 employees
These companies built viable businesses but could not become inevitable ones. Incumbents now bundle AI features from above. AI-native startups attack from below. Buyers rationalize stacks. The middle gets squeezed.
Where is growth now?
CMS & Web Experience Management grew 21.4%, from 504 to 612 products. Ecommerce Platforms & Carts grew 19.9%, from 547 to 656. AI drives both categories.
For two decades, websites served humans and search crawlers. A third audience now arrives: machines acting on behalf of humans. AI search assistants, agentic browsers, shopping agents, and procurement agents extract, compare, and transact on the customer's behalf.
The shift extends beyond discovery. Marketers now deploy their own agents on-site as guides, advisors, configurators, and concierges. The report notes that "the quality of the experience depends less on the model alone and more on what context the agent can access."
Which adjacent categories are also growing?
Several mature segments grew alongside CMS and ecommerce:
- Mobile & Web Analytics: +11.3%
- Call Analytics: +8.9%
- iPaaS/Data Integration: +8.0%
- Governance, Compliance & Privacy: +7.1%
- Marketing Automation & Campaign/Lead Management: +5.9%
Marketing automation's 5.9% gain shows that even categories declared mature for years can grow when AI restructures orchestration. iPaaS and governance rise as agents act across systems. Marketers work to instrument customer journeys that disappear into AI-mediated interactions.
What changes for martech practitioners?
The plateau does not signal an end to innovation. Growth now concentrates in the connective tissue — context engineering, structured data, governance, and the agentic layer spanning CMS and ecommerce.
